About the Platform

What is cambio.ao?
cambio.ao is a free informational platform that aggregates and displays exchange rates from various banks and currency exchange houses in Angola, as well as informal market rates. Our goal is to provide transparency and facilitate comparison of rates in one place.
Who is behind cambio.ao?
cambio.ao is operated by Exponencial Lda., a company registered in Angola. We are a team dedicated to bringing more transparency to the Angolan currency exchange market.
Is it free to use cambio.ao?
Yes, cambio.ao is currently completely free. We are considering introducing premium plans in the future with additional features, but basic access to rates will always remain free.

Exchange Rates

Where do the rates displayed on cambio.ao come from?
We collect rates from two main sources: (1) Official rates from Angolan banks and authorized exchange houses, obtained directly from their public channels (websites, official communications); (2) Informal market rates (parallel market), obtained through market monitoring and anonymous reports.
How often are rates updated?
Official rates are updated automatically every hour during business hours. Informal market rates are updated several times a day based on market activity. The last update date and time is always displayed next to each rate.
Why are there differences between bank rates?
Each bank sets its exchange rates based on several factors: internal liquidity, operational costs, currency availability, commercial strategy, and Central Bank guidelines. This is normal and legal in a competitive market.
Why are there differences between official and informal rates?
Differences exist due to several factors: limited access to foreign currency through official channels, high demand for foreign currency, bureaucratic restrictions, and risks associated with the parallel market. These differences reflect currency market dynamics in Angola.
What is the "kandonga" rate?

"Kandonga" is a popular term in Angola that refers to the informal (or parallel) exchange rate. This is the rate practiced in the informal market, outside of banks and authorized exchange houses. It is important to note that exchanging currency in the informal market is illegal in Angola.

Importante: De acordo com a Lei Cambial (Lei N.º 5/97), estas operações são ilegais em Angola e podem resultar em penalizações. Apresentamos estas taxas apenas para fins informativos e educacionais.

Technical Problems

Why don't I see rates for a specific bank?
This may happen for a few reasons: (1) The bank has not yet updated its rates today; (2) There is a temporary problem with our data collection system; (3) The bank does not publicly display its rates. We are constantly working to expand our bank coverage.
The rates I see are different from what the bank told me. Why?
Rates can vary during the day. The rate you see on cambio.ao is the one displayed publicly by the bank at the time of the last update. Additionally, some banks may practice different rates for special clients or large transactions. Always confirm the rate directly with the bank before conducting a transaction.
