- BNA reference rates: from the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
- Informal rates: collected from market information sources, representing values practiced in the informal/parallel market.
4.2. Specifics of Official Banking Rates
It is important to clarify that the official rates published by commercial banks primarily represent rates applicable to foreign currency acquired through official BNA mechanisms. However, due to limited availability of foreign currency through these official channels, commercial banks frequently need to acquire foreign currency through alternative means, such as:
- Purchase of foreign currency directly from their clients
- Negotiations in the interbank market
- Other legitimate sources of foreign currency
Consequently, the rates actually practiced by commercial banks in specific transactions may differ from the rates officially published on their websites.
4.3. Nature of Informal Rates
Informal market rates are presented on the Platform exclusively for informational, educational and comparative purposes. It is important to clarify:
- According to the Foreign Exchange Law (Law No. 5/97), all foreign currency exchange operations in Angola must be carried out through financial institutions authorized by the National Bank of Angola.
- The purchase and sale of foreign currency in the parallel or informal market, commonly practiced by "kinguilas", constitutes a violation of Angolan legislation and may result in penalties.
- Exponencial Lda. does not participate in, promote, encourage or facilitate operations in the informal exchange market.
- We strongly recommend that all exchange transactions be carried out through official and authorized channels, in accordance with current legislation.
